In the book, Fitzgerald uses the color green as the jealousy color. Money is green and in the story, Daisy marries Tom because he is rich and Gatsby was poor. Gatsby is jealous of Tom because he won the hand of the love of his life and Gatsby feels that Daisy doesn't love Tom. Tom senses that Daisy and Gatsby has something going on on the down-low. Tom sees Daisy touch touch Gatsby's coat in chapter 7 and Tom also sees Daisy's eyes meet with Tom's eyes. As Tom suspects something is going on with Daisy and Gatsby, he continues to be jealous of them, but still continues to cheat on Daisy with Myrtle.

When Tom, Daisy, and Gatsby are all in a room together, Tom can feel the vibe of Daisy and Gatsby. Then the phone rings, and Tom goes to answer it, when Tom leaves, Daisy and Gatsby lock eyes. After they lock eyes, they kiss. Then Tom hears Daisy tell Gatsby she loves him and Tom goes crazy. Tom immediately lets out his jealousy and whenever him and Gatsby get around each other, they act weird and can feel each other's tensions.

Gatsby is so jealous that he even tells Tom that Daisy never loved him and only married him for his money. This makes Daisy look like a gold digger and makes Tom upset. But Tom took the gentleman approach and just brushed it off and returned to being his self-centered, competitive self. Both Tom and Gatsby are jealous of each other because they both have and want Daisy for their selves. As for Tom, he's not a 1 woman kind of guy because he cheats on Daisy with his mistress Myrtle and he finds no problem with it. Gatsby had Daisy once and is willing to do anything to get her back and Tom is losing Daisy because he's a cheater.
