selfish people
In "The Great Gatsby" selfishness plays a major role in certain peoples lifes. One of these people is Mr. Gatsby himself. Gatsby's love towards Daisy grew so strong that he couldn't handle the fact that she was married to Tom. That showed that all Gatsby cared about was him having Daisy all to himself, even though Daisy was in love with both Gatsby and Tom. It seemed that he just wouldn't except the fact that Daisy wanted to stay with Tom. That made Gatsby extremely jealous and just made him become even more selfish than he already was.
Tom on the other hand wants Daisy to himself as well, but at the same time Tom has a mistress. His mistress is named Myrtle but she is also married to Mr.Wilson. Because Tom notices Daisy's atttraction towards Gatsby, he investigates Gatsby to try a sabotage his chances with Daisy. But at the same time, since Tom has a mistress, Daisy can have a Mister. That just goes to show how selfish Tom is being over the whole situation.
Out of all the women, Myrtle is the most selfish. This is because of how she is trying to take Tom away from Daisy because she wants to be married to a wealthy man. She also wants to leave her husband, Mr. Wilson, so she can live a lavish life with Tom. In Myrtle's mind, she believes that tom will eventually leave his wife for her, which is wrong because even though Tom is having an affair, he still loves Daisy with all his heart. That shows how desperate Myrtle is and how selfish she is being just to become rich by taking Daisy's husband.
